Note - The most important thing to remember is - being an empath is a gift. It's unusual (we're less than 2% of the population) and IS in fact, the way you are wired. (you aren't weird......or too sensitive, your body and brain are just a little bit different than those who want you to be more like them :)
the items on this list are not all encompassing. There are plenty of other interesting, artistic and eclectic gifts, abilities, talents and uncanny insights that are pretty unique to empaths - intuitive "feelers."
There are lots of great career and creativity resources for entrepreneurial empaths - we also have our favorites - hint, we're biased, because they're ours! [LINK] - but the single most important thing to remember is - your intuition, and your ability to feel the world - is a great gift - and your mission in this life, is to put your gift to use - in the service of empowering, inspiring and uplifting those who need you most.

1. You have a deep, intuitive sense of “Knowing”: Empaths feel things that most folks don’t. We know things before we’re told. We “see” things that are invisible to others. We have a deep connection to our intuitive senses that transcends simple gut feelings or instinct alone.
3. Crowds, cramp your comfort. You don’t like big public gatherings, and often feel overwhelmed with the energies and emotions of other humans (and non humans!) sharing your space.
4. You are innately artistic - and most likely, inspired by art and experiences that express spiritual growth and enhancing your intuitive abilities.
5. You absorb energy. Most empaths are sponges, and taking on the emotional energy of others, is a huge trigger that can both be a virtue, and a vice.
6. You may sense negativity, from a great distance away. Negative people, especially those whose lives intersect with your own, affect you in ways that others find easy to ignore, overlook or laugh off. This can be particularly problematic if you're in a relationship with someone who tends to bottle up their feelings. (or who tends to roll their eyes when you don't)
You allow your feelings to "stack" and then you "snap." It's a very common trait for empathic personalities to be grievance collectors, who collect and catalog ways in which others have hurt us. These feelings, when not addressed in the moment, over time - can manifest in physical pain, dis-ease, and poor relationships that will sabotage your self care. Be mindful of this.
Empaths tend to avoid confrontation most of the time, but when the "snap" happens, we tend to be fiercely confrontational, and over-react to otherwise mild disagreements.
7. You are a human lie detector! I can't tell you how many empaths in our community are the first to know when someone is not being truthful, honest or has ulterior motivations.
8. You are a savior with an eye for the underdog. Many empaths have a much easier time standing up, or speaking up for others, than we do for ourselves. Your activism is almost always aimed at helping others, or serving those who are struggling. (even if you struggle to speak up for yourself on other occasions)
Healer empaths are often animated by action, and we find our voice, and our purpose, in the service of stepping up and serving those who can’t help themselves. If this is you…..make 2024 the year you commit at least some of your time, to coaching, mentoring and serving as a coach career.
You absorb physical discomfort, pain and illness from others in your orbit. Any ailments or symptoms that others close to you experience, inevitably, will land in your lap as well.
Speaking of pain - you may develop physical pain around the energy centers of the body. Empaths are carriers, and energy is heavy. If you suffer from perpetual back, leg, hip and neck problems, it’s often an energetic imbalance that arises from holding on to the pain (and problems) of others. While this sounds crazy to some - the best selling book "The Body Keeps the Score" describes how sensitive people physically manifest and absorb other people's problems, as as your own.
People find it easy to talk to you, and will spontaneously (sometimes) dump all of their issues on you. Strangers, friends, family, co-workers and others are attracted to your empathetic nature, and seek solace from sharing (sometimes OVER-SHARING 🙂) their challenges with you.
Self expression is a deep need. Art, writing, journal keeping, musical talent or other forms of expression is something that is key to your sanity, and sense of power and peace.
13. You are insatiably curious. Your curiosity is rooted in a deep sense of appreciation of the natural world around us all. You feel the magic, embrace the mystery and seek out meaning where others often don’t see (or feel) anything at all.
14. You prioritize spiritual growth. Learning and growing is inspiring to you, and you find metaphysical topics particularly stimulating and exciting.
15. You seek solitude and safety. Your are a “nester” and creating a safe home space is key for your mental health.
You recharge batteries often, by being alone, or taking a break from close friends, family and loved ones alike.
You have a particular love of animals and pets. Empaths are often some of the most strident animal activists.
Sensitivity if your Superpower. You may not realize it now, but your deep commitment to kindness, compassion, connection and curiosity about other people is a great gift. So many people sleepwalk through life, choosing to avoid connecting with other people's emotions at all costs. You are the antithesis of this - and your life will be richer, fuller, and full of deep, immersive experiences with what matters most. You are more attracted to purpose, than profit in work, career and livelihood. You struggle, at various times of your life, picking the right type of work that maximizes both your purpose, potential and profitability. [If that's you, download this workbook for guidance]
Deep listening is your gift. You pay attention, fully, completely and without reservation, when in the company of a loved one in crisis. You connect with conversation in a way that makes you the preferred confidante for friends, family and even strangers who need a helping hand.
It goes without saying, empaths make the best listeners, and as a result, we can be “the best friend” to many in our orbit.
You experience energy from objects, too. Psychometry refers to picking up the energy (or emotions) from objects - including clothes, home decorations, furniture, plants, people, including from those no longer walking around in this world :) (in other words - you can feel the energy of the spiritual world, through objects that other people owned, before they were gone)
